We are pleased to announce that this year, 2014, the Military Transport Association will be collecting toys for Toys for Tots at Lead East. All toy donations that are collected will be delivered to the US Marine Reserve Unit at Picatinny Arsenal. They will distribute the toys to needy children in the North Jersey area for the holiday season. You will find the MTA's jeep display in the front vendor area of the Hilton.

It's a 5-day Oldies Music and Old Car Festival Weekend unlike any event held anywhere on this planet. This is the 32nd year for this cherished event. LEAD EAST is for 1972 and earlier vehicles (1974 and earlier allowed Sunday) — but it's far more than just a car show!

LEAD EAST is a giant 50's PARTY, offering more unique events than 15 normal car shows added together. People come together every year, set up their pop-up tents and BBQs next to one another, and kick back to wallow in the good vibrations that permeate the air for this magic, nostalgic weekend. The mellow atmosphere that glows over Parsippany every Labor Day Weekend is unmatched by any old car or oldies music festival anywhere!

Over the three-plus decades that LEAD EAST has existed, it has evolved, offering a virtual smorgasbord of indoor and outdoor activities. From the time the day starts in the morning with a Doo Wop A Cappella group singing our National Anthem over our public address system until the third 50’s movie in each night’s triple feature at our outdoor ACE DRIVE IN finishes, every day offers a long list of fun things to do for young and old alike.    

Most car events are over by 4:00 in the afternoon and people pack up and go home, but LEAD EAST is just getting started! It rocks day and night, with some people still dancing in the parking lot when the sun comes up! LEAD EAST is renowned and unchallenged as THE BEST Oldies Nostalgia weekend anywhere! No other event event comes close. We offer an indoor and outdoor, day and night lineup of non-stop activities unmatched anywhere — Sock Hops, Drive-In Movies, Cruising, Jitterbug and Swing Dancing, Doo Wop A Cappella, Prom Night, and MORE!

If you want to stay at the host hotels, the Parsippany NJ Hilton and Hampton Inn (two adjoining hotels in the center of the event), both were almost SOLD OUT with reservations for 2014 a few days after the event in September of 2013! However, there are a few rooms left and there are always some cancellations... Call 973-267-7373, ext. 7353 between 9-5 Monday-Friday to book yours fast!

We hold the event at a first class Hilton Hotel with many air-conditioned indoor activities and exhibits, plus clean first class indoor restrooms. Outdoors, the cars and exhibits are on clean asphalt with grassy areas to set up your picnic chairs, etc. Mercury vapor lamps illuminate the car areas at night so you're never in the dark. If it should rain, there is no mud as all cars park on paved asphalt.

SHUTTLE BUS TO HANOVER MARRIOTT: If you can’t get a reservation at the Hilton/Hampton Inn, the next best thing is to stay across the street at the Marriot. We’re happy to report that the Hanover Marriott will be operating a Free Shuttle bus from 9 AM to midnight to the front gate of LEAD EAST for Marriott guests ONLY. There will be a portion of the Marriott parking lot designated for OLD CAR PARKING ONLY.

The optimum way to enjoy LEAD EAST is to stay four or five nights at the Parsippany Hilton / Hampton Inn (two adjoining hotels) where the party happens. When the Hilton gets sold out, we strongly recommend the Hanover Marriott across the street because of the convenience of the Free Shuttle bus.

The Marriott is the ONLY hotel offering a shuttle service, and it is for Marriott guests only. The Marriott takes credit card reservations. Call 973-538-8811 and be sure to mention LEAD EAST. The minimum stay to reserve a room at the Marriott is 2 nights.

Food ranges from several restaurants and vendors inside the hotel to outdoor food vendors with a nice array of reasonably priced items. Many participants with old cars bring their own food and BBQ grills for the parking lot. The Hilton sells alcoholic beverages and beer in the hotel. Note: The police will not permit people riding in old cars inside the event to have an open container of alcohol! No riding around the event sitting on the roof, fenders, or trunks of cars. Everyone must be inside the car or trunk or pickup bed. Also, people allowing their underage children to sit on their lap and steer the car as they make laps around the event will be banned from the event for life!

In addition to playing recorded oldies and live Doo Wop over the P.A. system in the hotel parking lot, we have an outdoor stage for bands Friday night through Sunday, an indoor stage in the Hotel Ballroom providing live entertainment from Wednesday night though Sunday night, and a third stage in the Hotel Lobby Atrium area for Open Mike opportunities, plus 50's-60's Karaoke from noon Friday to midnight Sunday. There are times where there is live music on state on three stages simultaneously!

Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening we have GOLDEN OLDIES CONCERTS in the ballroom with top groups. Saturday and Sunday afternoon five outstanding Doo Wop A Cappela groups hold forth in the Ballroom. We also have a live band on the outdoor stage Friday night, as well as the GOLDEN GUP and the RHYTHMHANCERS rockin’ on our outdoor stage Saturday night. Tune your radio to 87.9 FM for our low-power broadcast of our outdoor P.A. system. You can listen to it on your car radio.

In 2013 the Hotel completed a multi-million dollar renovation to the Lobby Atrium area of the first floor which was completed on the first day of our event. The major change of floor plan caught us by surprise and caused some turmoil regarding the dance floor and band stage area for our Friday Night Sock Hop and Sunday Night Prom. Consequently we are shuffling some of our events around to take maximum advantage of the various venues available to us to make 2014 operate ideally.

EXPANDED KARAOKE: Henceforth the new larger Lobby Atrium area and Bar will be used exclusively for 50’s KARAOKE and OPEN MIKE performances supervised by D.J. PAT FERANTE. This will dramatically increase the time allotted to this popular entertainment activity from Noon to Midnight Friday, and from 11:30 AM to Midnight both Saturday and Sunday! This will include the 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM DOO WOP IDOL auditions on both Saturday and Sunday. The Lobby Atrium area will have an increased number of chairs to provide anybody a place to sit and relax throughout the event in air-conditioned comfort while watching non-stop oldies entertainment.  

DOO WOP IDOL: On Saturday and Sunday in the Lobby Atrium from 12:30 to 2:30 PM, we will let any single individual or group (amateurs only) that signs up get up on stage in the Lobby Atrium and sing one song in “Idol” competition. Judges will select one of those performances as that day’s winner and present them with a $300 cash prize! The winning individual or group will also earn the right to perform one song in that evening’s Oldies Concert onstage in front of the big audience in the Ballroom. Here’s a great opportunity for you or your group to perform onstage in front of an audience, and win! Open Mike and 50’s KARAOKE will take place the rest of the allotted time on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

SENIOR SOCK HOP: Because of the demands for a large dance floor area, the Sr. Sock Hop (for adults) will be moved to the Outdoor Stage area! This is the largest dance floor area we have in the event. Entertainment will be provided by THE RAVE ON BAND. a great BUDDY HOLLEY and ROY ORBISON Tribute Group. D.J. LIL’ JIMMY from Peabody, MA will spin while the band is on breaks so there is non-stop dancing. The Best Dancer Contest Preliminaries where three or more couples will be selected for Saturday night’s DANCE OFF will take place Friday night at the Outdoor Stage. In the event of rain, this activity will be moved back into the Lobby Atrium area. 

JUNIOR SOCK HOP: This event designed for kids with our traditional Nerd and Jr. Nerd Contests, Greaser, and Jr. Greaser Contests, and Bobby Soxer and Jr. Bobby Soxer Contests will all be moved indoors to the Heritage Room. D.J. DENNIS DeSOMMA will provide the music.

PROM: We present a PROM Sunday evening with a D.J. This gives the ladies an excuse to get all dolled up. Because Prom-goers prefer to have their exclusivity, this event will be moved into the Heritage Room. D.J. LIL’ JIMMY will provide the tunes.

COLLECTIBLES SHOW: The area of the our 50’s COLLECTIBLES SHOW previously occupying the Heritage Room will move into the fourth 2,500 square foot portion of the Ballroom. That will provide a sound buffer so the music of the Friday Night JUNIOR SOCK HOP and Sunday night PROM will not conflict with the Friday or Sunday night OLDIES CONCERTS in the Ballroom. 

A popular attraction that makes LEAD EAST really unique, we hire two great Doo Wop groups for Saturday and one on Sunday to wander around indoors and out to harmonize and entertain. The Outdoor Voice of LEAD EAST, our great D.J. Jerry “The WOLFMAN” Burst spins oldies over our giant PA system. If that's not enough, we have a Welcome Party Wednesday night with THE GREYHOUNDS band, colorful D.J. The GOLDEN GUP for a Thursday night Party in the Ballroom, two SOCK HOPS operating simultaneously Friday night, and bands onstage outdoors Saturday and Sunday afternoon! No other event we've ever seen has spontaneous Doo Wop groups singing a cappella into the early hours in the bar or hotel lobby! It's a magic atmosphere!

Dancing has always been part of our event, but in recent years it has grown to become even more popular. If you love to dance, from Wednesday night on through the weekend — sometimes until sunrise — we provide a variety of venues, indoors and out, with both live and recorded music where you can beat your feet or glide around the asphalt like a would-be Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.
